Profile: Ben Lobo
I develop web sites and web applications using a variety of technologies including PHP, Python and Plone. I've been a freelance developer since 1995 and I've gained a wide range of experience and knowledge ranging from static brochure sites to dynamic applications like content management systems, membership sites and online shops.
I have a lot of experience of working with organisations in the cultural sector and I'm used to working either individually or as a member of a team. I have been the lead developer for several projects including the website for the British Postal Museum and Archive.
The sites and applications that I develop conform to approved standards, work across different browsers and on different platforms and are optimised towards search engines as far as possible.
Examples of my work
British Postal Museum and Archive: In 2008 I worked in a team as lead developer responsible for migrating this site from Plone version 2.0.5 to version 3.1 and moving the site to a virtualised hosting platform to provide stability and scalability for the future.
Good Green Gifts: This is an online shop selling environmentally friendly goods. I received a set of design drawings which I used to develop the front end styling of the site. I also developed the PHP back end (connecting to an existing MySQL database) including the shopping cart and the integration with the secure payment gateway Secure Trading.
Society of Antiquaries of London: I worked in a team as lead developer for this Plone-based content management system site which enables this ancient historical Society to easily manage their own web content.
